Flashback Friday Royal Visits to Newforge

Flashback Friday Royalty

As we prepare to close for the Bank Holiday weekend, out of respect for Her Royal Majesty the Queen, we’re reflecting on times gone by…

Newforge Sports Complex (where the Harp and Crown Credit Union office is based) is steeped in history, having experienced a number of special Royal visits over the last 60 years.

During the early 1960s, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was the first royal visitor to Newforge.  Prince Philip piloted the Royal Navy Helicopter (pictured) which landed on what was to be the main rugby pitch at Newforge.

HRH Charles, Prince of Wales (as he was titled back then) was welcomed to Newforge in the early 1990s.  Many staff and members enjoyed the opportunity to meet him during his tour of the complex.

We are thinking of King Charles III and his siblings as they keep a vigil this evening, and all of Queen Elizabeth II’s loved ones, on the lead up to Monday.
