National Numeracy Day

National Numeracy Day

“Building brighter futures through confidence with numbers.” It’s National Numeracy Day on 17th May!

What is numeracy?

“Numeracy is having the confidence to use basic maths at work and in everyday life.”

How can you help your JUNIORS with numeracy?

The nationalnumeracy.org.uk website includes loads of activities and ideas to help parents, carers and teachers build their children's confidence with numbers.

Just some of their ideas below!

  • 5 years and younger:  Look for numbers on doors, buses, cars, signs, at the shops – anywhere! Remember to talk about what the numbers mean when you see them.

  • 6 to 9 year olds: Explore the local area. Ask your child to guess how many buildings are on the street, or how many dogs and cats live in your town. Ask for the reasons behind their answers.

  • 10 to 13 year olds: Look for maths on the TV, in newspapers or magazines and talk about it together. You might find percentages in special offers, probability in weather reports, salaries in the job section, or simply the length of TV shows.

Why not try some of these ideas with your junior today!

Remember we offer Junior Savings accounts from 0-15 years, helping set them up for a healthier financial future.
